This active subwoofer offers a performance not found elsewhere within the price range. The driver is an extreme one, selected from the Peerless exlusive state-of-the-art series XXLS (Xpanded Extra Long Stroke), with a very well built aluminum membrane, a 2,2 kg magnet and a coil that is 51 mm in diameter.
This together with the powerful 500 watts ICEpower® amplifier, from B&O give the subwoofer outstanding performance.

Amplifier
Danish Bang & Olufsen ICEpower® has been one of the pioneers in developing new technologies to enhance Class D amplification and bring the audio quality to a level accepted by audiophiles. This allowed for subsequent introduction of Class D technologies into a wide range of audio applications. B&O ASX2 modules are the best high end Class-D amps on the market today.
XTZ is using the newest 125ASX2 amplifier from ICEpower® with there core technology, COM (the Controlled Oscillating Modulator) and MECC (Multivariable Enhanced Cascade Control)
The XTZ 99 W12.18 ICE is equipped with ICEpower® 125ASX2, a powerful 500 watt amplifier. For professional use (studio, PA etc), it is equipped with a balanced input. The terminal connectors are gold plated and very solid.
Class-D technology makes it possible to achieve higher power without having to cope with the heat dissipation generated from regular amplifier.
The active amplifier also provides a variety of adjustment options, not possible to obtain using a passive filter. These include phase, frequency, high pass filtering, volume etc.
By using these settings, the main amplifier is relieved and only needs to drive the midrange and treble. This usually results in lower distortion and the risk of damages on it is lowered.
ICEpower® Class D amplifiers have the following advantages:

Driver
The driver is an extreme one, selected from the Peerless exlusive state-of-the-art series XXLS (Xpanded Extra Long Stroke), with a very well built aluminum membrane, a 2,2 kg magnet and a coil that is 51 mm in diameter. You can read more about the driver and its specifications below. We claim finding a better driver is very hard if you want both power handling capacity and precision. Very few drivers possess the kind of engineering experience this one does, especially at this price.
The cabinet
The cabinet is heavily constructed with 25 mm MDF, reinforced with several internal bars. The bass reflex tubes have a larger diameter to eliminate noise and to adapt the subwoofer to the room. For maximum flexibility the twin tubes have different lengths. This provides 4 different basic characters to choose from.
99W12.18P has got rubber feet to reduce vibrations. These can be replaced with spikes if preferred (M6). The rubber feet are adjustable.
Why use two subwoofers instead of one?
We recommend using two subwoofers as there are several advantages this way. First, the system can play louder, and another reason is that more excitation points will cause fewer phase cancellations in the room. The result is a clearer soundstage. Sound characters and settings
By using the adjustments and included bass reflex port bungs, you can alter the sound character in many ways. This provides you with options to achieve exactly the kind of sound you want.
Level adjustment
The listening volume can be adjusted in respect to the rest of the speakers thanks to the active amplifier.
Crossover frequency
The upper crossover frequency can be adjusted between 40 - 250 Hz. Thanks to this you can alter the bass character from deep to "light" for a optimal integration with the rest of your speakers and the room properties.
EQ-switch
EQ 1 Raises the level around 50Hz with 7dB.
EQ 2 Raises the level around 25Hz with 7dB.
Highpass filter
The high pas filter cuts the lowest parts of the bass region. This can be useful in some cases when the room amplifies the lowest frequencies a lot, resulting in boomy bass and poor precision.
Phase adjustment
The phase can be adjusted without steps from 0 - 180 degrees.
Room Tuning
Using the included foam bungs you can alter the bass character of the subwoofer by plugging the reflex ports.
