99 W12.16 is a standing version of the model 99 W12.16, one of our most popular products. It has been received very well by press and consumers. Why? The answer is because it is a extremely successful compromise between power, pondus and a design that appeal to most people. Further, the careful balance between deep bass response and rapid mid bass makes it suitable for both home cinema and music setups. It also offers a wide range of adjustments for tuning it to most rooms. 99 W12.16 is a further development of the previous model 99 W12

Goals

Quality

* Just like any other speaker we have used reality as our starting point trying to preserve a sound as natural as possible
* Cabinet, amp and driver all offer a very high mechanical quality level
* Finish and detail quality is very high, for example the high gloss black paint that presents an elegant impression

Cabinet design
We have chosen 25 mm MDF offering a low level of internal resonance, and a cabinet construction reinforced using internal bars for maximum stability. The relatively small cabinet also adds to the stability.

Bass driver
We selected a 12" long stroke driver weighing 6,5 kg, with good transient response and capacity for loud SPL levels. The driver is constructed with a solid aluminum cast basket, a high flow tyoe that´s acoustically transparent. The membrane is a NPP type offering superior robustness and low weight. The magnet is a 100 oz unit.

The combination of a powerful magnet, low weight driver membrane and high performance suspension ensures both power and presicion.



The amplifier
The 99 W12.16S uses a 300 watt (RMS) amp to ensure good sound pressure capabilities and still maintain the precision. The amp is well equipped with a toroidal transformer and balanced input. A large heat sink makes sure the heat is dissipated safely. This amplifier offers tuning possibilities that passive filters cannot, phase, adjustable crossover frequency and level. There are two EQ-switches and a selectable highpass filter. The use of an active subwoofer also means the main amplifier just have to drive midrange and tweeters, which effectively reduces the load, often resulting in less distorsion.


Sound characters and settings
By using the adjustments and included bass reflex port bungs, you can alter the sound character in many ways. This provides you with options to achieve exactly the kind of sound you want.


Level adjustment
The listening volume can be adjusted in respect to the rest of the speakers thanks to the active amplifier.

Crossover frequency
The upper crossover frequency can be adjusted between 40 - 250 Hz. Thanks to this you can alter the bass character from deep to "light" for a optimal integration with the rest of your speakers and the room properties.


EQ-switch
EQ 1 Raises the level around 50Hz with 7dB.
EQ 2 Raises the level around 25Hz with 7dB.



Highpass filter
The high pas filter cuts the lowest parts of the bass region. This can be useful in some cases when the room amplifies the lowest frequencies a lot, resulting in boomy bass and poor precision.



Phase adjustment
The phase can be adjusted without steps from 0 - 180 degrees.

Room Tuning - Mechanical boundary frequency adjustment
Using the included foam bungs you can alter the bass character of the subwoofer by plugging the reflex ports.

The picture below shows three different bass characters. By adjusting phase, crossover frequency and level the character can be further adjusted.
