We wanted to see where the line goes for making a speaker series at a very low price, but without having to sacrifice to much performance. When optimizing the cost/performance ratio it is usually best to look at things from a customers point of view. Magnetically shielded
The magnets of a speaker can severly de-tune the picture tube of a traditional tv set if placed nearby. For this reason the 80 Center is magnetically shielded. Modern plasma sets, LCDs or projectors are not sensitive to magnetic fields. For these units a regular speaker can be used.


Cabinet design
The cabinet is built from 18 mm MDF to obtain good sonic properties. The front use two layers for a total of 25 mm MDF. The front is only a few mm wider than the driver to minimize unwanted resonance.


Tweeter
We have chosen a silk dome tweeter capable of high reproduction quality, flat frequency response and in fact very high power capacity.


Bass/midrange driver
We opted for two 5 1/4" drivers that we found to be the best compromise between power handling, frequency range and transient response. The low weight coated paper membrane together with a powerful magnet offers a high effiency. Rubber suspension and quality dampening materials contribute to a high performance and long life span.


Filter
The filter is a 12 dB/oct with a minimum of phase shift and good transient response. It is built with quality capacitors and air wound coils with low resistance.


Sealed of bass reflex
Using the included foam bungs you can change the character of the speaker from bass reflex to sealed by simply plugging the reflex port. This also enables the speaker to be mounted onto a wall.
